In recent days, BOB's BitVM bridge testnet has gone live. Although there hasn't been much discussion in the community, I personally believe this is a crucial step for the Bitcoin ecosystem and could even determine whether BTC DeFi can truly take off. In the broader context, BOB is a hybrid chain of BTC + ETH, inheriting both the security of Bitcoin and the composability of the entire Ethereum ecosystem's infrastructure. In simple terms, BOB's core purpose is to genuinely allow native BTC to participate in on-chain financial logic, without wrapping assets, custodianship, or relying on multi-signatures. Compared to previous BTC DeFi solutions, which often required some workaround—like locking up BTC and issuing a pegged token to play with—the biggest issue with this structure is trust. BOB, using BitVM, makes the entire execution process fraud-proof; it requires verification, not trust. To put it more plainly, using BTC on BOB is like using ETH on Arbitrum—both are real assets. What I am most concerned about are the three optimizations in the architecture: 1️⃣ Dividing Operators into two categories: one responsible for computation and the other for withdrawals. This division of labor is quite similar to the PoS model, adapting to how institutions operate. 2️⃣ Introducing ETH blobs to store data, avoiding congestion in Bitcoin's block space, which significantly reduces execution costs and enhances censorship resistance. 3️⃣ Supporting the reuse of BTC collateral, meaning that BTC staked by one node can run multiple BitVM instances, which greatly aids scalability. What we can do now is understand the operational logic of BitVM, monitor the progress of the testnet, and look forward to the mainnet launch in Q4. If it works, the liquidity of BTC will undergo a qualitative change.
